Explore Stoweflake's on-site groomed trail systems on snowshoes rented from the Sports and Wellness Center at Stoweflake. Even more, Umiak's Moonlight Snowshoe Tour will lead you to a hidden sugar-house in the woods by the light of the moon (or headlamp). Enjoy a toasty fire, award winning Vermont Cabot cheddar cheese, crackers, Cold Hollow's hot apple cider, stargazing and good friends. Bring your own favorite bottle of wine if you like.
Take a dog sledding tour on Stoweflake's trails! Step back in time before automobiles and snow machines were a way of life, when dog sledding and running dogs were the norm. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a highlight of any winter vacation. 20-minute Tours at Stoweflake on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Reservations required.
For those who prefer the fast track, snowmobile tours can be arranged with Snowmobile Vermont through Stoweflake's Mountain Vacation Planners' Desk. Experience the feeling of guiding your snow machine at high speed en route to a beautiful view as part of a guided tour. For more experienced snowmobilers, the Stowe area has an array of VAST trails that you can explore on your own. Stoweflake does not provide equipment.
Vermont has 40 large lakes open for ice fishing for trout, salmon and bass. The ice fishing season on these lakes starts the third Saturday in January and continues through March 15. Stop by Fly Rod Shop in Stowe to learn more and even take some lessons- perfect for family or group travel!
Take the whole family or enjoy a romantic ride through the trails of Stowe along the Westbranch River lead by majestic horses. The best part is that you can enjoy these trips year-round and enjoy the covered bridges and gentle running brooks in every season!
Our favorite quintessential ice skating pond is maintained throughout the winter and gently lit but a lamp post upon dusk. Bring your ice skates and even a hockey stick to slide around! The Stowe Arena also offers open skate hours in the Stowe Village with skate rentals.
