HEALING THROUGH WATER
“Solacium Per Aqua” Water Sculpture Completes the Meditative Garden and Labyrinth at the Spa at Stoweflake
Solacium per Aqua at the Spa at Stoweflake is a water sculpture inspired by Vermont’s pristine river brooks and natural streams, designed to provide relaxation and comfort to guests of Stoweflake’s 10,000 sq ft. garden and labyrinth.
“Solacium per Aqua” is Latin for “comfort through water,” and appropriately, the 10-foot high, 6,000-pound sculpture, created by famed artist Chris Curtis, celebrates water and its healing properties. Formed of stainless steel and Vermont slate rock, the sculpture features six levels from which the water cascading down, capturing the natural energy of Vermont’s river brooks and mountain streams. When wet, the sculpture’s slate rock glows in vibrant aqua and violet purple colors.
The Solacium Per Aqua sculpture is not only calming to the eye, but also soothing to the soul of guests seeking an area for quiet meditation. The natural slate was carefully sculpted with smoothed edges allowing guests to sit around the sculpture’s foundation.
The erection of the sculpture lasted a week as each level was assembled piece by piece using techniques similar to the ones used by ancient Egyptians to lift heavy materials.
Curtis’ award-winning sculptures are considered to be inspirational in their design. During the past 25 years, Curtis has designed sculptures for memorials, private art collectors, commercial businesses and public art displays.
The Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa, set amidst the inspiring Green Mountains of Stowe, Vermont, is a AAA Four Diamond, family owned and operated resort.
